Glass in the Shoals has a hard year. Oak and pine pollen film it yellow every spring, the summer humidity glues dust to it, and wherever a sprinkler reaches, the limestone in the water dries into white spots that ordinary washing will not shift. A window that has gone grey does it slowly enough that you stop seeing the room get darker.
Cleaning it properly is not complicated, it is just particular. The pane gets scrubbed, squeegeed to the frame, and the sill wiped, so there is no dirty line at the edge and no drip down the siding. Upper glass gets pure water off a pole so it dries without spots and without a ladder leaning on your house.
How it is done. Exterior glass gets scrubbed with a washer, squeegeed to the frame, then the sill and the bottom edge wiped dry. Upper windows are reached with a water-fed pole and purified water, which dries spot free and keeps the ladder off your siding. Inside, a drop cloth goes down first and the same pass happens on the other side of the glass.

We do not blast glass
If someone offers to pressure wash your windows, that is a seal, a screen and possibly a pane you are about to replace. Glass gets a scrubber, a squeegee and pure water. The pressure stays on the truck.
Real jobs, shot the day of.

How the visit goes
Count and look
Every pane gets counted and looked at from outside. Sprinkler spots, paint overspray and old screens change the job, so they get noted before the quote.
Screens off
Screens come out, get cleaned, and lean where they will not scratch anything. They go back in the same window they came out of.
Scrub, squeegee, wipe
Each pane is scrubbed, squeegeed edge to edge, and the sill and frame wiped so nothing runs down the siding after we leave.
Walk it
The whole house gets walked from outside with the sun on the glass. If a pane shows a streak, it gets done again before the truck moves.
Window cleaning is 10 to 20% off on the plan
The plan is the monthly upkeep most people never get round to: web sweep, wasp removal, trash bin cleaning, gutter inspection, light perimeter debris cleanup, from $59 a month with the same person every visit. Being on it takes 10 to 20% off window cleaning and anything else you book, and the higher tiers fold the seasonal work in. See the three tiers →
Or just the one visit, full price, no plan needed. Call or text 256-415-7878.
What we know about window cleaning here.
Why the north side goes green
In this climate the shaded side of a house stays damp into mid-morning most of the year, and algae likes damp. The glass on that side films faster, the frames stain, and the sills hold a black line. It is not dirt in the usual sense, it is growth, which is why it comes back on a schedule rather than at random.
Pure water and the pole
Tap water here carries limestone, and limestone dries white. A water-fed pole runs purified water through a brush, which rinses the pane clean and dries with nothing left behind. It also keeps a ladder off your siding and your gutters, which matters more than people think on a two-story.
Old wood windows
Florence, Sheffield and Tuscumbia have a lot of original wood sash. Old glazing putty and painted muntins do not want water forced at them. Those windows get done by hand, pane by pane, with the sill wiped before anything can soak in.
Window cleaning questions, answered.
The things Florence homeowners ask about window cleaning before the first visit. If yours is not here, call or text and the owner picks up.
01How often should windows be cleaned in the Shoals?
Pollen hits in March and April and the humidity works on the glass all summer, so most homes look right at every month to every few months. The plan handles it on a schedule; a one-off resets it. Text a photo of the worst window to 256-415-7878 and we will say which.
02Do you clean the inside of the glass too?
Yes, on request. A drop cloth goes down first, the sills get wiped, and anything we moved goes back where it was. Say so when you ask for the quote.
03Will the sprinkler spots come off?
Usually, with a mineral treatment rather than a plain wash, and it depends how many summers they have had to bake on. We will tell you what to expect before we start, not after.
04What about the screens?
They come out, get cleaned, and go back in the same window. A screen that sheds dust when you tap it has been filtering pollen onto your glass for years.
05What if it rains the day after?
Rain is not what dirties glass, dust is. Clean glass that gets rained on dries clean. If a storm blows debris onto a window we just did, call 256-415-7878 and we will look at it.
